An ad for a baby girl up for adoption that showed up in the free classified section of this web site appears to be a scam. In house IT staff removed the ad Friday afternoon, but members of the Fox 7 News department attempted to make contact with the people who posted it. They identified themselves as an orphanage out of Cameroon, a country in West Africa.
Local international adoption experts say adoption ads are becoming more common. While it may seem like a stretch to believe that anyone would send money to an adoption agency in a foreign country to get access to a child, Chris Huber with Families Thru International Adoption says families trying to adopt can be fragile and emotional.
Huber says there is an involved, extensive process for international adoption, and families should be leery of on line solicitations. If you'd like more information on legal international adoption, please contact Evansville based Families Thru International Adoption.
