The catholic church uses prayer to try and help victims and survivors of abuse. The service was led by Bishop Gerald Gettelfinger at Saint Josephs church in jasper Sunday. Sitting in the pews were victims and survivors of physical and sexual abuse listening to a message of hope. But in the church was also the family of accused abuser Monsignor Othmar Schroeder. Schroeder died more than 19 years ago but revelations of sexual abuse by the jasper priest surfaced in august. Norbert Schroeder says his brother mistakes affected the lives of at least 10 victims and was a big reason for this service. Bishop Gettelfinger says the church recently began a new training program teaching young people to speak up about abuse immediately telling police and those in charge.
