One of the busiest traveling weekends of the year is at an end. Police say the roads in Evansville stayed pretty safe this year. There were only a few traffic accidents this Thanksgiving, but Evansvilles Chief Deputy, Dave Wedding, says officers wrote plenty of tickets. One reason to give thanks, no one died on the road in Vanderburgh County. Last year, eleven deaths were reported state wide over Thanksgiving. To cut down on that, police are implementing a program called Operation-Pull-Over. The point is to have more officers monitoring the road, in hopes of keeping accidents at a minimum. Theyre mainly looking for people speeding, tailgating, changing lanes abruptly, or driving under the influence. Wedding says DUIs were up this week. The Sheriffs Department issued 25 DUIs in 5 days. Other than that, and the shopping traffic, the roads were fairly clear. He says extra officers will remain on the road through Christmas and New Years too. If youre going to be on the road this holiday season, Wedding has some driving advice for you, "If you travel out of town, know your route, prepare your trip, make sure your car is safe to drive and slow down a bit and be courteous to other drivers and certainly dont drink and drive."
