Rescued Dogs Ready for New Homes

From: Vanderburgh County Humane Society: RESCUED DOGS BEGIN SEARCH FOR NEW LIFE STARTING DECEMBER 3RD (Evansville, IN – December 3, 2007) On Tuesday, November 20th, the Vanderburgh Humane Society answered the call for help when an extremely large number of animals were rescued from a breeder in Dubois County and brought to their shelter. What was originally thought to be 74 dogs and 9 cats were actually 83 dogs and 9 cats, for a total of 92 animals the VHS brought to their facility. It has been a long process since the animals arrived, cataloging each of the animals, medically evaluating each one individually, and observing their temperaments, not to mention the time and resources it takes to care for each animal daily. A number of the dogs have tested positive for diseases such as heartworms and sarcoptic mange, as well as being infested with fleas and other parasites. In addition to these medical issues, the majority of their coats are in terrible condition, so excessive grooming will need to be done. Starting Tuesday, December 3rd, a number of these rescued animals will be available for adoption. In the coming days, the VHS will focus on grooming these adoptable animals and getting them ready to hopefully find their forever homes. The VHS also has many other wonderful animals, separate from the rescue, who have been waiting for weeks and even months to be adopted. In addition to the extreme population growth at the VHS caused by the Dubois County rescue, approximately 100 other animals have been surrendered by the public to the VHS just since Tuesday, November 20th. Not only are adopters needed to take these animals home, but monetary donations are needed to care for this overwhelming number of animals the VHS is currently housing.
