Two-Vehicle Crash Kills Vincennes Man

Two-Vehicle Crash on U.S. 41 Kills Vincennes Man Knox County - Monday morning, December 10, at 11:26 a.m., Indiana State Police investigated a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 41 at Decker Chapel Road that killed a Vincennes man. Preliminary investigation revealed that Bernard Daugherty, 83, of Vincennes, was driving his 2004 Ford pickup truck eastbound on Decker Chapel Road approaching U.S. 41. Steven McNeese, 60, of Patoka, was driving his 2003 Ford pickup truck southbound on U.S. 41 approaching Decker Chapel Road. After stopping at the intersection, Daugherty drove into the path of the southbound vehicle. McNeese’s vehicle struck Daugherty’s vehicle in the driver’s door area with its front end. Both vehicles came to a final rest in the intersection. Trooper Kim Riordan drove up on the crash seconds after it occurred and determined Daugherty was unconscious. Trooper Riordan and a bystander performed C.P.R. until Knox County E.M.S. arrived. Daugherty was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was not wearing a seat belt. McNeese was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. Deanna McNeese, 57, who was a passenger in her husband’s vehicle, was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville where she is currently being treated for non-life threatening injuries. She was also wearing a seat belt. The passing lane of southbound U.S. 41 was closed for approximately 1 ½ hours while troopers investigated this crash.
