Indiana ranks number 20 in the nation for vehicle thefts. Police say a vehicle is reported stolen just about every day in Evansville. Allstate insurance company bought a car and took it to professional car dismantlers at Ivy Tech Community College. They say when a car thief looks at your vehicle, they see dollar signs. Sold in parts, a stolen car is hard to trace. Karen Spica with Allstate Insurance has a team that took apart a Ford Focus in 5 minutes. Bill Bolin with the Evansville Police Department says there are some things you can do to help keep your vehicle out of the cross hairs of a carjacker this holiday season. You should hide your packages, put them in your trunk. He says another thing people tend to do this time of year is go out and start their car to let it warm up and then go back inside. Spica says the number one stolen car in Indiana is a 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass. Nationally a 1995 Honda Civic ranks number one.
