If Indianas local government reform commission has its way schools like New Harmonys could be a thing of the past.
The commission put together by Governor Mitch Daniels released a report meant to streamline local government.
Part of its recommendations....consolidating school districts with less than two-thousand students.
The new harmony district has only two-hundred and two students...but some parents still say no.
Glen Cherzinger says he very happy with the school.
He says its a good school and kids have done well on I-Step testing and the SAT over the years.
Superintendent Fran Thoele says there are things that make up for the small number of students.
She says they know every child, care about every child, and individualize their education.
Under the recommendation New Harmonys school could be shut down and students possibly bused to Mt. Vernon.
North Posey district with just over 13-hundred students could face the same fate but Superintendent John Wood says there are pros and cons.
The general assembly could decide the issue of consolidating school districts as soon as next year.
