Soldier's Christmas

By: LaTonya Stephens
Updated: December 25, 2007
A local soldier creates Christmas memories with his new family before heading off to Iraq. Josh Auxier is part of the 151st Army National Guard out of Linton, Indiana but is living with his wife in Evansville. He like many local soldiers are preparing for deployment but not before exchanging gifts and spending precious time with his family. They spent the morning like most couples opening presents and sharing smiles. Its their last Christmas together before Sargent Auxier leaves for his 3rd deployment and his 2nd to Iraq. He says hes been told hell be gone for 7 to 8months but says its really up in the air. Sgt. Auxier is hoping though, that thats the case because after getting married in July he now has a wife, a step daughter and a baby on the way. He is slated to leave January 2nd for two months of training in Georgia.....then heads off to Iraq in March. So the couple tries to enjoy every minute that they have together. Hoping Josh can make it home for the birth of the baby and in time for next Christmas.
