Updated: January 9, 2008
Plans for a nine-field baseball-softball complex at Wesselman Park got past first base. The Convention and Visitors Bureau unveiled the plans this fall. The Vanderburgh County Council has now agreed to put up $425,000 to hire an architect for the project. The overall price tag is expected to be around $11 million. Supporters hope to lure regional and national tournaments to the area. They also say near-by attractions, such as Hartke pool and the Swonder Ice Rink, will make the area even more of a tourist destination. David Dunn of the Convention and Visitors Bureau says, "Its so unique it will be one of the premiere complexes in the nation once it is fully developed." Officials hope to break ground on the complex this summer and the first games on the fields in 2009.
