HANG UP AND DRIVE! THATS THE MESSAGE BEHIND A BILL THAT WILL BE PROPOSED IN INDIANA ON TUESDAY. WE SPOKE WITH HOOSIERS TODAY AND SURPRISINGLY, FOUND MANY ARE IN FAVOR OF BANNING CELL PHONE USE WHILE DRIVING. KELSHA DUNCAN, LIKE MANY DRIVERS, USES CAR TIME TO CATCH UP ON PHONE TIME. THIS TUESDAY, INDIANAS HOUSE PUBLIC POLICY COMMITTEE WILL HEAR A BILL, REQUESTING A BAN ON HAND-HELD CELL PHONE USE WHILE ON THE ROAD. NEW YORK CURRENTLY HAS A LAW PROHIBITING PEOPLE TO TALK AND DRIVE... AND STATISTICS SHOW THAT ACCIDENTS HAVE GONE DOWN.. BUT IF PASSED, WILL IT WORK IN INDIANA? ACCORDING TO THE BILL, A DRIVER WOULD GET A CLASS D CITATION FOR TALKING ON A HAND-HELD PHONE. ACCORDING TO SGT. HELMER, THIS WOULD MEAN ONLY A 25-DOLLAR FINE. A SIMILAR BILL WAS PROPOSED ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO, BUT DIED SHORTLY AFTER IN THE LEGISLATURE..AND HOOSIERS, LIKE DUNCAN HOPE THIS BILL FIZZLES AGAIN, LIKE LAST TIME. EXEMPTIONS FROM THE BILL WOULD BE PEOPLE IN EMERGENCY SITUATIONS, E-M-S DRIVERS, FIRE FIGHTERS AND AUTHORIZED EMERGENCY VEHICLES.
