US & World Summary: --- Five Die In California Midair Collision (Corona, CA) -- The FAA and NTSB are investigating yesterdays midair collision yesterday that killed five people. Two small planes collided over Corona, California, killing four people aboard the planes and one on the ground. Authorities say debris rained down on a car dealership about one mile away from the crash scene and that the victim on the ground died when debris went through the roof of that dealership. The collision happened near Corona Municipal Airport shortly after 3:30 p.m. Pacific time and involved two Cessnas. --- Supremacists, Black Activists May Clash At Rally (Jena, LA) -- While three of the major Democratic presidential candidates participate in a Martin Luther King Day march in South Carolina, an anti-King rally will take place in Jena, Louisiana. Organizers of the "Jena Justice" rally and parade are calling for a peaceful gathering to protest the King holiday and to rally against the six blacks teens who beat a white student. Spokesman Richard Barrett says the aim of todays "No to Jena Six, No to MLK" parade and rally is empowerment, from, quote, "the point of a pen and the lungs of liberty, not from the barrel of a gun." --- Giants And Patriots Advance To Super Bowl 42 (Green Bay, WI) -- Super Bowl 42 will be played in Arizona but feature two East Coast teams. The New York Giants will face the New England Patriots in the big game, after the Giants beat the Green Bay Packers 23-20 in overtime in the NFC title game at frigid Lambeau Field. Earlier in the day the Patriots improved to 18-0 with a 21-12 win over the San Diego Chargers. The Giants overcame below zero temperatures and wind chills of minus 24 to beat the Packers on a Lawrence Tynes 47-yard field goal. --- Obama Challenges Bill Clinton For False Comments Senator Barack Obama is calling out Bill Clinton over comments the former President made about Obamas voting record. During an appearance today on ABCs "Good Morning America," Obama said the ex-president continues to make false and misleading statements about him and called Clintons campaign efforts for his wife, quote, "troubling." Earlier this month Clinton called the idea that Obama consistently voted against the Iraq war the quote, "biggest fairy tale" he has ever seen. --- Fire Destroys City Block Near Boston, Massachusetts (Lawrence, MA) -- At least 40 people are homeless and 14 buildings gone after a major six-alarm fire in Lawrence, Massachusetts, just outside of Boston. The city is working with the Red Cross and state agencies to help the fire victims who are facing frigid cold and dangerous windchill temperatures. Fire authorities say 26 housing units burned to the ground after the fire began in an abandoned night club and quickly spread. Firefighters were hampered in batting the blaze by the single-digit temperatures and frozen fire hydrants and equipment. --- Airport Screeners To Use Black Lights To Spot Fake IDs Airport security screeners are getting a new tool to spot phony IDs. According to "USA Today," by the end of the month screeners will begin using handheld black lights to examine drivers licenses and identification cards. The black lights will be used to illuminate holograms and government seals in licenses and passports. In addition, the screeners will also use magnifying glasses to highlight the tiny inscriptions found in the borders of passports and other IDs. The new tools are being distributed to the nations 800 airport checkpoints. --- Kiefer Sutherland Released From Jail (Los Angeles, CA) -- Jack is back. Actor Kiefer Sutherland has been released from jail after serving 48 days behind bars. According to People.com, the star of "24" kept to himself for the most of his sentence, which was served in an eight-by-ten-foot cell in Glendale, California. Sutherland, who plays agent Jack Bauer on the hit series, missed Christmas, New Years and his birthday during the incarceration.
