The Glover Cary Bridge, The Blue Bridge at Owensboro has been struck by a crane being hauled on a barge on the Ohio River. The OLD US 231 Bridge is open at this time according to the Owensboro Police Department. However, it may need to be closed in the next few hours to allow a KYTC inspector to examine it. Keith Todd tells us the crane was being towed by the Motor Vessel Maggie B. Yager. According to the US Coast Guard, the harbor tug was moving a crane near the bridge. The pilot told USCG that he noticed the crane was still extended and took evasive action at the last minute. As a result of his quick action the tow was moving slowly and the crane only hit he bridge with a glancing blow. Owensboro Police on site initially reported no visible damage to the bride while there was damage to the crane. The Glover Cary Bridge carries KY 2155 traffic between Kentucky and Indiana at the site.
