The proposal to ban drivers in Indiana from using cell phones failed Wednesday.
It was up for a vote in the House Public Policy committee, but the Indianapolis lawmaker who proposed the ban withdrew it when it became apparent the bill would not pass.
The bill would not have eliminated cell phone usage completely for drivers.
Hands-free pieces would have still been allowed.
Legislators in Kentucky have proposed a similar bill, but no hearing date has been set for that bill.
