Police Arrest Woman for Battering Step-Daughter Knox County –
Thursday afternoon, January 24, Indiana State Police launched a criminal investigation after receiving information from Knox County Child Protective Services that a nine-year-old girl had been battered by her step-mother. During the investigation, Troopers Jason Allen and Paul Stoltz revealed that on Wednesday evening, January 23, the nine-year-old was at home with her step-mother when she was instructed to wash dishes. Between 6 and 7:30 p.m. the woman allegedly beat her step-daughter with a shoe on several different occasions because she wasn’t washing the dishes fast enough. The girl had severe bruising on her buttocks and lower back. The step-mother, Mariam Stewart, 44, of Sandborn, was arrested yesterday afternoon and taken to the Knox County Jail. The nine-year-old girl was released to her father.
