Speeding Semi Driver Arrested for Driving While Intoxicated
Evansville – Thursday morning, January 31, at approximately 4:15 a.m., Master Trooper Tim Wood stopped a 1990 Mack tractor-trailer on southbound U.S. 41 at Virginia for speeding. As Trooper Wood approached the truck he noticed the driver was not behind the wheel, but in the sleeper compartment. After the driver eventually opened the driver’s door and exited, it was determined he had been rinsing with mouth wash. The driver identified himself as Bruce Newcom, 49, of Clay, KY. Newcom had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and impaired balance. Further investigation revealed Newcom was legally intoxicated. He was taken to the Vanderburgh County Jail where he is being held on bond. Newcom was hauling an unknown oil product to Henderson, KY.
