An Owensboro furniture store is a total loss. Firefighters fought a four-alarm overnight at the old Wards Trend House Furniture store. Thats at 14th and Moseley. The flames fully engulfed the store, and several apartments above it. Owensboro Assistant Fire Chief John Vessels says 9 trucks including 3 ladder companies were used to battle the massive flames that devoured the old Ward Trend House Furniture store. On top of the furniture store, nine apartments were completely destroyed. Timmy Smith came home to find his apartment completely engulfed in flames. As fire and smoke were billowing through his home Smith says the only thing he could think of was his girlfriend. Smith says it was his quick actions that saved her life. Ralph ward is the owner of the building. He first got the call from his daughter in law that his store was on fire. His son, daughter in law, and grandchildren rent one of the apartments. Vessels says they may never know what sparked one of the largest fires in Owensboros history, but says the main thing is that none of his crew or the residents were hurt. The red cross in Owensboro is providing shelter for some of the families displaced by the fire.
