Defense secretary visits Fort Campbell
(Fort Campbell) Defense secretary Robert Gates says he wants to hear whats on the minds of families and soldiers at Fort Campbell. Hes meeting today with soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division and their spouses.
Gates says he takes their feedback very seriously. For instance, President Bushs proposal to allow soldiers to transfer their unused education benefits to family members came from a meeting at Fort Hood, Texas just before Thanksgiving. Defense Department spokesman Geoff Morrell says Gates continues to be inspired by the commitment and sincerity of soldiers and their families. This is Gates first visit to Fort Campbell.
