The Gibson County Sheriff’s Department was notified on Monday 2/4/2008 that the late Deputy Sheriff Jerry “Jed” Fisher’s name will be added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C. The names will be formally dedicated on May 13, 2008 at the 20th annual candlelight vigil held during National Police Week. Deputy Fisher passed away on October 3, 2001 while in training with his K-9 partner at the Evansville-Vanderburgh County Regional K-9 Training Center. Since that time the Gibson County Sheriff’s Department has established a scholarship fund in Deputy Jerry “Jed” Fisher’s name and have awarded 10 scholarships to Gibson County students as of this date. The Sheriff’s Department is organizing a trip to Washington, D.C. to attend the candlelight vigil.
