CJ’s Bus to Provide Hope for Young Survivors of Kentucky Tornado

Mobile Recreation Unit being deployed to Muhlenberg County Kentucky to provide laughter, light, and love for children and families affected by tornado

In response to this week’s deadly tornado outbreak, a very special bus is being sent to the disaster area to help the families -- and especially the children -- cope with the immediate aftermath of the twisters. CJ’s Bus, a mobile recreation unit established by Kathryn Martin in honor of her 2-year-old son C.J. Martin who died in the Evansville, Indiana tornado in November 2005, will be arriving on Friday, February 8, 2008 in Greenville, Kentucky, a small town just south of Central City in Muhlenberg County. The bus will offer a full range of activities to keep children distracted in a safe group environment including, drawing, painting, computer games, sports trivia games, jewelry making and other crafts. CJ’s Bus was made possible through the generous support of people and children across the tri-state area and was invited to help the families and children in Greenville, Kentucky by the Muhlenberg Emergency Operations Center. “Having gone through the Evansville tornado and having lost one of my four children, I know how important it is to help children maintain their innocence in these disasters while providing parents a few hours to attend to their own recovery needs,” stated Kathryn Martin, founder of CJ’s Bus. “I could think of no greater legacy to my son than to help put smiles on the faces of other children facing these traumatic situations and to help by lightening the child care burden on their parents, if only for a few hours or a few days.” CJ’s Bus will be available to the public between 7:00AM and 6:00PM and will be staffed by Martin, as well as other local certified disaster relief volunteers and counselors. The CJ’s Bus Foundation wishes to thank the Muhlenberg Emergency Operations Center and the Kentucky State Police for their support in helping CJ’s Bus to assist the children of Greenville, KY in the aftermath of this recent disaster. About CJ’s Bus Foundation Founded by Kathryn and John Martin to honor the memory of their 2-year-old son C.J. who was among 25 victims of the November 6, 2005 Evansville, Indiana tornado, CJ’s Bus is a rapid response self-contained mobile recreation unit which can be deployed to disaster sites nationwide in order to keep children distracted and entertained in a safe group environment in the immediate aftermath of disasters. The CJ’s Bus Foundation was started with the generous support of people throughout the Tri-State area. For more information, please visit www.cjsbus.org .
