News Release: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE On March 15, 2008, Funk in the City will host "My Big Fat Greek Benefit for the Alhambra Theatre." The Alhambra Theatre, the 1913 Moorish-style movie house in the heart of the Haynies Corner Arts District, is moving closer and closer to becoming operational, and this benefit will help raise awareness and funds to support the renovation of the historic building. "The Alhambra is a real gem of our community, and Funk in the City remains committed to helping with this project," said LaShone Gibson, president of Funk in the City. Over the years, Funkn in the City has donated thousands of dollars to the Theatre to support the renovation and eventually opening of the facility. "My Big Fat Greek Benefit" will begin at 8PM on Saturday, March 15, 2008, at the Acropolis Banquet Hall (Diamond Ave. and Hwy 41 - in front of the EconoLodge). The evening will include a Greek appetizer buffet, beer & wine, a live Greek band from Cincinnati, traditional dancing and plate breaking (a cash bar will be available). The cost per person is $45 with proceeds benefitting the Alhambra Theatre. Tickets can be purchased by calling Jamie @ 812.575.9138 or by sending a check to Funk in the City, PO Box 3004, Evansville, IN 47730. Funk in the City, Inc. held its first public festival in September of 2003 - an art festival simply known as Funk in the City. The art festival, now known as the Haynies Corner Art Festival, is now in its sixth year, and will be held September 27, 2008. Funk in the Citys other main event is Dragons on the Ohio - dragon boat racing and multicultural festival. The 3rd Annual Dragons on the Ohio is scheduled for June 7, 2008. Funk in the Citys mission is to provide unique artistic and cultural events and festivals for the Tri-state.
