Stolen Weapons Recovered, Bicknell Man Arrested

Knox County – Last month, Indiana State Police and Bicknell Police launched a joint investigation after a Bicknell Reserve Police Officer’s home was burglarized and two of his duty weapons were stolen. The investigation revealed Reserve Police Officer Troy Stubbs’ residence in Bicknell was burglarized during the day on January 17. An unknown subject entered Stubbs’ residence and stole his .45 caliber Charles Daley handgun and a 12 gauge Winchester shotgun. On Monday morning, February 11, investigating officers received information that Joseph Mahaney, 18, of Bicknell, had allegedly committed the burglary and had the stolen weapons in his possession. Officers also discovered Mahaney was staying in a garage located at 1017 Durbin Street in Bicknell. At approximately 11:10 a.m., Indiana State Police Detective Loren Brooks, Bicknell Police Lieutenant Terry Stremming and Bicknell Patrolman Loren Myers went to the garage on Durbin Street and located Mahaney. The weapons were not in the garage, but officers received information regarding the location of the weapons. Officers went to a wooded area near 800 Lawton in Bicknell and found the 12 gauge Winchester shotgun buried in a nearby ditch. Officers then went to a residence on Mentor Street in Vincennes and recovered the .45 caliber Charles Daley handgun above the ceiling tile in a second floor bedroom. After recovering both weapons, Mahaney was arrested and taken to the Knox County Jail where he is currently being held on bond.

1. 2 Counts of Possession of Stolen Property, Class D Felony

This investigation was conducted by the Indiana State Police and Bicknell Police.
