(Princeton) – For the second time today, volunteers from the Gibson County Chapter of the American Red Cross ventured out into the treacherous conditions to help the victims of a house fire, this time in Oakland City. The fire started around 11am at 410 S. Franklin Street, Apartments A-C and took crews from all over the county several hours to contain. The Gibson County American Red Cross is assisting two of the victims with emergency shelter, food and clothing. “It has been a very busy day for all of us, as we continue to try and support the fire departments and fire victims despite the rivers flooding and cold, icy conditions outside,” said Greg Waite, Executive Director. American Red Cross Disaster Assistance is provided free of charge thanks to the generous volunteers of Gibson County. “We continue to spend on average $1,049 on each fire victim and have spent over $7,000 in the past two months, money we hope the community will help us recover and continue to do our job.” Donations are being accepted by the American Red Cross, call (812) 386-6300 or visit our website www.gibsoncountyredcross.org for more information about how you can help.
