The suspected gunman in the shooting at Northern Illinois University Thursday has been identified.
27 year old Steven Kazmierczak is being described as a steller student while he attended NIU.
He won at least two awards while there and served as an officer in a group dedicated to promoting understanding of the criminal justice system.
He was currently enrolled at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana.
The death toll in the shootings is up to 6, including Kazmierczak.
They are Daniel Parmenter, age 20, of Westchester, Ill., Catalina Garcia, age 20, last of Cicero, Ill., Ryanne Mace, age 19, last of Carpentersville, Ill., Julianna Gehant, age 32, last of Mendota, Ill., and Gayle Dubowski, age 20, last of Carol Stream, Ill.
Police say the shooter became erratic after not taking medication for an unknown disorder.
They say he carried a shotgun to campus inside a guitar case and wielded three more guns during the ambush inside the lecture hall.
