Old sneakers usually end up in the dump, but not at Newburghs Sharon Elementary. Monday, the students kicked off a two week reuse-a-shoe drive, recycling old shoes. The student council spread the word through posters. And for the next two weeks, theyll be collecting as many shoes as they can. Monday alone, they scored 100 pairs. Miss Rudisills 5th grade class collected the most in one day, 19 pairs. The drive is part of Fox 7s Green Initiative. The shoe soles will be used to make new sport surfaces for kids in low-income areas. We hope to collect 20-thousand shoes from various schools by may.
