breaking news
When Hamilton Golf Course closed earlier this February, there were hundreds of frustrated golfers left wondering if it meant the end of an era.
The Hamilton family leased the property near the airport for more than 30 years, running a 36 hole golf course. When a new lease couldnt be worked out, they walked away. Now county commissioners are trying to find a new operator to take over. There are reportedly three who are interested.
Commissioners met with all of the groups behind closed doors, and expected to present information about their next move at their meeting Tuesday. That did not happen, though. According to Commissioner Jeff Korb, there are still too many loose ends in the deal to make it public.
Still, supporters of Hamilton say they are encouraged by the momentum created by the commissioners. "We dont care who runs it," said Mike Sitzman. He said supporters didnt know if anyone would be interested in taking over when the Hamiltons closed up shop.
"The fact that there are three parties interested says... were probably going to have golf there."
