Governors Property Tax Plan Passes Senate Committee (Indianapolis) -- The property tax plan proposed by Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels has won approval from a state Senate committee. The Tax and Fiscal Policy Committee made some changes in House Bill 1001, but the property tax caps remain. The tax on homestead property would not exceed one-percent of assessed value, two-percent for rental and agriculture land, and three-percent for businesses. The committee voted to shift some police and fire pensions to the state, along with the cost of juvenile incarceration. The full Senate will now consider the bill.
