Road Plows, Residents Ready for More Winter Weather

With yet another winter punch looming, snow plow drivers are getting ready for some long hours, and weary residents are laying in groceries to prepare for the worst.
Warrick, Vanderburgh and Gibson County highway departments logged more than 200 hours of overtime each during last weeks storm. Crews from the Vanderburgh department started pre-treating roads with salt brine early Wednesday. The liquid slurry mix is sprayed directly on roads, clings to the pavement, and prevents ice from sticking to the surface. It can also reduce the amount to time snow stays on roads.
While road crews prepare for a possible storm, residents are stocking up on essentials so they wont have to venture out in the frigid mess. The manager of the North 1st Avenue Buehlers Buy Low in Evansville had to bring in extra check out clerks, and stock additional bread and milk to accommodate the rush of pre-storm shoppers.
Dean Luchini said he sees a similar response every time the weather forecast calls for snow, but in the wake of last weeks weather, it appears that more people are trying to get a head start.
