Evansville Police Warning of Possible Phone Scam

By: Michael C. Fehn
Updated: May 24, 2012
Evansville Police are warning about an attempt to cheat you out of your money.

Officers say they've had complaints from people who have been receiving getting calls, claiming they've won a monthly giveaway for 30-thousand dollars, and a Mercedes Benz.

Call recipients are then told to go to Walmart, Walgreens, or CVS to buy a Green Dot Money Card for 2 hundred dollars.

Police say the caller then tells them to give that card to the delivery person who would be showing up later that day with the prizes.

Police say that the caller has a Middle-East accent, and no delivery person has ever shown up.

If you receive a call like this, you're asked to call police.
