Murder suspect Joaquin Starks is behind bars in Sandy Springs, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta. Starks is the prime suspect in Fridays murder of Ida Jefferson. The two had been romantically linked, but Jefferson had broken off the relationship. She was the victim of multiple acts of physical abuse, and had filed for a protective order to keep Starks away from her. Jefferson was shot to death in front of an apartment complex on Jefferson Avenue early Friday morning. Witnesses reported seeing Starks flee the scene. His last know address was raided by Evansville SWAT officers Friday morning. According to Evansville Police, Starks had been following news reports about the slaying on local media web sites. He was also in contact with family members, who urged him to surrender. Starks turned himself in at 1:40 central time. There is no word on whether he will waive extradition, or fight it. Police hope to know by Thursday what Starks plans to do.
