New Property Tax Forms

New property tax forms in Indiana may cause big financial problems for the county, city and school districts. The problem was brought to the attention of the Vanderburgh County Council Wednesday morning. Vanderburgh county treasurer Z Tuley says shell do everything in her power to get property tax bills out on time, even if that means going against the states new requirements "I think were going to have to be together on this decision" And shes asking for support from the County Council. Since 2004, the treasurers office has used the same colts form to bill tax payers. Now... "They want to change the design of the form.." Something that Auditor, Bill Fluty says could mean late bills, late payments and effect a lot of people. "That money funds the government." He says the timing of it is more of a problem than anything. The deadline for tax payers to receive bills is may 10th, but if the countys forced to print new forms, they may miss the deadline. Tuleys not sure yet why the states implementing these changes and says existing forms have all the required information. Going against the state could mean repercussions "Im worried there might be financial problems." Tuley proposes asking the state to push new requirements back to 2009 so property taxes in Indiana arent delayed. Now at least one county council member believes property tax bills might be late regardless of the new forms, he says the hold up comes from within the auditors office.
