UPDATE:
Every Indiana county in our viewing area is now under a burn ban. Right now... Posey County Firefighters say they are dealing with fires, because of the dry conditions. Mount Vernon Fire Department was dispatched originally to a brush fire off State Road 62 and Leonard Road near a train track just after 11 this morning, but when they got there they say it wasn't brush that was on fire. Firefighters say what was on fire were several hundred brand new railroad ties sitting inches away from the track.  Firefighters are battling these oily like--rubber objects  and they were unable to tap out the fire until after the first hour on scene. Investigators say water was not the solution and foam is the only way to put the fire out and keep it out. Firefighters fear that with no rain in sight, they'll be responding to more and more instances like this. Chief Dixon says had the fire spread just a few more yards, it would've been devastating for a nearby bridge and the railroad track itself. State fire marshals are in Mount Vernon to help determine a cause, no foul play is suspected and the fire is still under investigation.
PREVIOS REPORT:
Crews in Mt. Vernon are on the scene of a fire near State Road 62. According to our crew on the scene, railroad ties are burning near the railroad tracks in the area.  Fire fighters, we're told, have the fire under control, however, they expect to be on the scene for quite some time. We will have the latest on this story later on Eyewitness News.
