Several July 4th Fireworks Shows Canceled

By: Michael C. Fehn
Updated: July 4, 2012
Three Tri-State 4th of July firework displays have been canceled due to the extreme dry conditions.

Holiday World Spokesperson, Paula Werne, released a statement on Thursday saying, "Due to the extended hot, dry forecast, it would be best to cancel the fireworks, for safety's sake."  There is no word on whether the park plans to reschedule.

Officials in Muhlenberg County, KY have also called off their fireworks display for the 4th due to the extreme heat and dry conditions.  A new date is expected to be announced at a later time.

In addition to postponing the fireworks show, officials in Muhlenberg County are also urging everyone to refrain from using their own private fireworks, saying there is a great risk in these being an ignition source for a fire.

And in Carmi, IL, police have issued a ban on store bought fireworks.  In addition, the city's 4th of July display has been canceled due to the dry conditions.
