Evansville North High School marching band heads to the nation's capital for a memorable opportunity. Last summer, former Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel sent a recommendation for the Green Brigade to have the chance to perform in the 2012 National Independence Day Parade in Washington D.C. The parade will take place July 4, in front of an anticipated audience of thousands.
After a year of fund raising band members boarded buses today to leave for the event.
"This is a wonderful chance for us to get out and show the entire country, hopefully, what North band is and what we're good at," said band member Paul Jones, "so I'm really glad to have the opportunity to do that."
The band will not only be performing in this year's parade, but has given the chance to lay a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soilder in honor of Indepenedce Day.
