About 27-Thousand Deep Fryers Sold At JC Penney Stores Recalled
(Washington, DC) -- About 27-thousand deep fryers sold at JC Penney stores last year and this year are being recalled.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission says the recall affects the "Cooks Deep Fryers" sold between August and January.
The commission says the Chinese-made fryers have defective heating elements which can cause the fryers to overheat, possibly causing fires and burns.
There is one report of a minor burn and three reports of countertops being damaged.
The recalled fryers are stainless steel with a wire mesh basket, black handles and a lid with a window.
"Cooks" and model number 22016 are stamped on the bottom of the fryer.
Consumers should return the items to any JC Penney store for a refund.
