Very good news to share with parents about the statewide ISTEP test scores released today. Numbers show out of the 500,000 students who took the standardized tests, 71 percent passed both the Language Arts and Math sections. That's up one percentage point from last year. Also, more than 80 percent of students were skilled in at least one of four subjects.

A school in South Bend showed the most improvement of any middle school in the state. It had received an "F" grade for four years and could have been taken over by the state if it continued. Four Indianapolis schools and a Gary school have already been taken under the state's control.
