She's a soap opera actress, but she calls Union County Kentucky home.  Kassie DePaiva is from Morganfield.  She plays Blair Cramer on General Hospital, and Wednesday we caught up with her at a Tri-State hospital.  DePaiva was visiting her father at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, where he is recovering from heart surgery.  DePaiva talked about her experience playing different characters.

You've probably seen her on TV shows like the Guiding Light, and ABC's One Life To Live.  Now Kassie DePaiva plays Blair Cramer on General Hospital.  Wednesday, was her second appearance on the show.

"The soap opera world is a pretty good gig. It's very funny to be here in a hospital situation and not here 'cut' so I'm thinking oh but this is the real deal here at the Heart Hospital," Kassie DePaiva said.

DePaiva says Kentucky is what she considers home.  The Morganfield native spent the day at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh.

"I get back to Kentucky as often as possible but always around the Thanksgiving Holiday's, today, this week I've been here because my father has had triple by-pass at the Heart Hospital at Deaconess Gateway and it's just been a difficult time for a family because of the surgery but it's been an awesome experience to watch this wonderful staff at the hospital," DePaiva said.

The actress and singer went to Union County High School, IU, and UCLA.

"I'd rather be at General Hospital pretending than any hospital in the world. But if I have to be at a hospital, the Heart Hospital, I would call a second home," DePaiva said.

DePaiva says she believes soap operas are not going to die, it's just simple economics.  She says the networks feel they can make more money with just two people and a talk show situation, than a big production.

"There is not a day that goes by that I am not stopped on the streets of New York City, down on the subway, at the airport, in a restaurant that they don't say I miss One Life To Live, I miss Blair, what are you doing? How's it going? Why did they cancel One Life To Live?" DePaiva said.

DePaiva lives in New York City with her husband and 15-year-old son.  She says General Hospital is taped in L.A., so they fly her out to work.

DePaiva says her family is hoping her 82-year-old father will be released from Deaconess Thursday.

Hope Kassie's dad has a speedy recovery. My family as roots in Union Co. I've watched One Life to Live before & now record General Hospital. Just so I can ff >> to the 'good parts' aka Todd parts.. & I get so tickled whenever Todd makes fun of Blair's southern drawl. (Blairese, Blairbonics) One day he made fun of the way she said - Liar. Then on Wed's show it was - talk. It's so quick & I'm like - Hey, he's making fun of Kentuckians. No.. no he's not. He's making fun of Kassie & her accent. Trust me. I've sat thru 2 -3 - 4 of those Union Co High School graduations & they really do sound like that. It cracks me up. It's like I'm on the 'inside' of the joke... funny. Oh, when my family catches me watching GH. They're all like -Where's Blair? I thought she was on that show? I'm like - IDK, only seen her once. Now, next time they ask. I'll be sure to tell them - Well, she was in Newburgh ;)
