Feds Visit Hoosier Farms as Drought Strengthens Grip

A top federal farm official is continuing to visit Indiana farms hard-hit by the state's worst drought in decades.
Many are calling this the worst drought since 1988, which is prompting federal officials to take action now. Farm and Foreign Agricultural Services Undersecretary, Michael Scuse, is set to visit a farm Thursday morning in the central Indiana town of Whiteland, about 20 miles south of Indianapolis.
He'll stop at Kelsay Farms, a sixth-generation dairy and grain farm in Johnson County, on the second day of his trip to the state.
Scuse visited drought-stricken farms Wednesday in Allen and White Counties in northern Indiana.
During a Tuesday tour of farms in Michigan, he said the drought shows the importance of passing the farm bill congress is now considering.
The bill contains disaster relief programs set to expire September 30th.
