Businesses Evacuated After Natural Gas Leak in Evansville

By: Michael C. Fehn
Updated: July 31, 2012
Business is back to normal around a Vanderburgh County industrial park.

During the mid morning hours on Tuesday, a construction crew hit a natural gas line off of St. Joe Avenue, near the entrance to Motoux Park.  As a result, several nearby businesses were evacuated while crews attempted to shut down the gas line.  The rupture also caused north bound traffic on St. Joe, between Mill Road and Allen Lane to be shut down.

The natural gas line was shut down about 15 minutes after it was ruptured, allowing employees of the nearby businesses to go back to work and traffic to start moving again along St. Joe Avenue.

There were no injuries reported as a result of the incident.
