UPDATE:
Evansville Police are looking for a suspect they say carjacked a man at gunpoint early Saturday morning. We have exclusive video from the scene. Police say they responded to a fight outside Ginny's Place on Covert and Vann Avenue. As the vehicle left the scene, officers tried to pull it over but say the vehicle took off at 50 miles per hour. After further investigation, EPD says the driver of the SUV was held at gunpoint by the suspect who fled the scene on foot. This news has parents on high alert who say the crime in the River City is getting out of hand. A man was detained and arrested, along with bags of marijuana. Donyell Lemond says crime is the reason she left Vanderburgh County. She says violent acts like this carjacking incident are polluting the minds of our youth. EPD says the chase was due to the driver being held at gunpoint and continuing to drive. Officers arrested a suspect they say was in possession of marijuana, his name and relation to this case have not been released. Police say the armed suspect has not been caught, which isn't good news to parents. An uneasy feeling about a case police say is ongoing. Evansville police aren't saying the name of the suspect they arrested, where exactly the drugs came from or the status of the driver.
PREVIOUS REPORT:
Eyewitness News Team first on the scene of a police chase early Saturday morning. Witnesses say the chase began at Ginny's Place at Vann and Covert just before 2:00 am. The suspect was a patron at the bar, Evansville Police arrived, and that's when witnesses say the suspect fled, running laps around the Neighborhood WalMart nearby. A car chase followed reaching speeds up to 50 mph our crew says, once stopped, multiple bags of marijuana was seized. Our crew says one suspect is still on the loose, no word on the final number of suspects, but our team says they are black males. We are working to get the latest information from Evansville Police, see the video and updates tonight on Eyewitness News at 6:00pm.
