Parents and teachers at Cedar Hall Elementary School say theyre the first big winners under the EVSC’s new strategic plan. But, its a victory that almost didnt happen. Thanks to efforts from parents and administrators they dodged the pending closure of the century old school. Under the strategic plan unveiled in December, Cedar Hall was to close down and its students shift to Harwood. The prospect of the strategic plan delivering new buildings to the campus here gives them more reason to cheer. Jerine Paddock says for the first time in a long time inner city kids can say theyre just as important as any other children in the district. Superintendent Vince Bertram wants to see new construction at Cedar Hall to bring the campus up to modern standards. That work might include buying adjacent land to build on.
