Illinois-shaped corn flake a hit on eBay
(Undated) Just because eBay may have pulled the plug on a frosted corn flake valued at over 200 thousand dollars doesnt mean the owners have given up trying to auction it. Donald McIntire of Chesapeake, Virginia, said this afternoon that his family will try to sell a coupon redeemable for the oversized flake shaped like the state of Illinois. The change in strategy comes a day after eBay banished the flake from cyberspace because it violates a policy prohibiting the auctioning of food. McIntire said his 15-year-old daughter - Emily - noticed the flake while eating cereal from a box last Thursday. The girl found that it resembled the Midwest state and came up with the idea of auctioning it as a joke. But the joke was on the family - when in days after posting the flake the site took over 24 thousand hits and bidding reached $200,444. That all ended Monday, when eBay said no more to trying to sell it. Since posting the coupon, bidding has reached 735 dollars. McIntire said the family plans to continue auctioning it until Friday. McIntire said the story has taken on a life of its own - with news organizations calling from places such as Australia, New Zealand, Japan, France and Italy.
