Indiana Property Tax Bill Becomes Law
(Indianapolis) -- The act bringing immediate property tax relief to Indiana residents has been signed into law.
Governor Mitch Daniels, Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman, House Speaker Pat Bauer, and Senate President Pro Tem David Long all took part in a ceremony at the State House.
House Enrolled Act 1001 cuts the average property tax bill in the state by about 30-percent this year, as compared to 2007.
It also phases in caps on the percentage of tax that land owners will pay on their property.
Some of the revenue will be replaced by an increase in the state sales tax.
