Portions of the tristate are still dealing with the aftermath of rising waters and heavy rain. Last night the local chapter of the American Red Cross issued an urgent plea for volunteers to help fill sandbags. Friday morning that work is underway in the areas of North Green River Road, Heckel Road and near the Pigeon Creek. Areas in Henderson are also literally in the same boat with similar flooding issues. Various roads throughout the tris-tate remain closed and impassable. Latest from the local red Cross News Release: RED CROSS RESPONDING TO FLOODING Evansville, Ind. – The Southwestern Indiana Chapter continues disaster response efforts today as a result of widespread flooding in neighborhoods around Pigeon Creek. Volunteers are needed throughout the day to assist with sandbagging efforts. In the past 48 hours, the Red Cross has served 86 meals and hundreds of snacks and bottles of water. Red Cross volunteers are also distributing gloves to the people who have been helping to protect the homes threatened by floodwaters. Emergency Response Vehicles have been stationed at the command center located by the Goebel Soccer Complex just off of Heckel Road. Overnight, 26 people stayed at a Red Cross shelter at 29 South Stockwell Road. The shelter remains open today for families that have been forced to leave their homes as a result of evacuations or rising waters. Red Cross staff and volunteers will be on hand at the command center for media interviews throughout the afternoon.
