On your mark, get set, get fit! Vanderburgh County officials team up with representatives from the University of Southern Indiana to cut the ribbon on the area's latest effort to increase our cardiovascular capacity and cut down on our waistlines. The new west side bike and pedestrian path connects USI to Burdette Park.

Officials have talked about the project for more than 20 years. Ground was broken in 2006, and the first phase of the path opened in 2007. The final phase has been open for about two months and it is apparently getting a lot of use.

"Every morning it amazes me when I come to work," said Burdette Park Manager Steven Craig, "I see people on the trail from one end to the other, and it just tells me we did the right thing."

Officials say they would like to eventually connect the bike path with the Pigeon Creek Greenway.
