Hundreds in Gibson County Celebrate New Stretch of I-69

A community comes together to celebrate the opening of a new interstate.  Hundreds of people walked the freshly paved surface of a stretch of Interstate 69 today to commemorate its expected opening next month.
Every mother worth her salt tells her children not to play in the street. But today hundreds of people in Gibson County ignored that general rule to celebrate the opening of a stretch of Interstate 69, which most say is a big plus for the Tri-State.
It's a party in the street in Gibson County. But it's not just any party.  And this isn't just any street.  This street will soon be the much anticipated Interstate 69.  And these people are getting a sneak peak at what will soon be a busy highway.
Some here say this highway is a long time coming. Children power some of the first wheels on the asphalt, tricycles, while others leave their marks where millions of cars will eventually pass.
And when you think of the possibilities, It's pretty cool indeed.
Officials say work on the stretch of I-69 between Evansville and Crane Indiana should be complete by mid-November.
