October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the Vanderburgh County Prosecutor's Office is teaming up with area non-profit organizations to get the word out to victims where they can find help. In the last year, there have been six Evansville murders related to domestic violence, the people who follow those numbers say that's high for our area. Stephanie Haggard says she's dealt with two different men physically and mentally abusing her. She says a piece of paper, didn't always help. But she's alive and able to share her story. Vanderburgh County Prosecutor Nick Hermann and shelters in the area are hoping to help those in violent relationships get out. Stephanie haggard learned the hard way, now she's able to raise her children, move forward and educate women that love shouldn't hurt. Prosecutor Hermann actually represented Stephanie Haggard years ago in one of her domestic violence cases. Her abuser is now serving a 58 year sentence in prison.
