Hurricane Sandy Leaves 11 Dead in Cuba

HAVANA (AP) -- Hurricane Sandy is now responsible for at least 21 deaths. Cuban state media have announced 11 deaths from the storm, including a 4-month-old boy who was crushed when his home collapsed.
State TV's nightly newscast says nine of the deaths were in Santiago province in eastern Cuba, which is home to Cuba's second largest city. It is also known as Santiago.
The other two deaths were reported in Cuba's Guantanamo province, bordering the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay.
Cuban authorities say most of the fatalities occurred when dwellings fell down, but the cause of others is still being investigated.

The storm is an unusual mix of a hurricane and a winter storm. The worst of it could be focused around New York City and New Jersey.
Forecasters on Thursday said there's a 90 percent chance that the East will get steady gale-force winds, flooding, heavy rain and maybe snow starting Sunday and stretching past Wednesday.
The hurricane part of the storm is likely to come ashore somewhere in New Jersey on Tuesday morning.
NOAA forecaster Jim Cisco said the storm is so massive that the effects will be felt along the entire coast from Florida to Maine and inland to Ohio.
