When most of us think of parks we think of fresh green grass and flowers, but an Evansville landscaping business is re-designing a downtown park with a twist, and the Redevelopment Commission gave it the green light. In Owensboro, there's Smother's Park and if landscapers in Evansville have their way, the park on Fourth and Main will have a similar feel. The rough and tough action on the football field is usually where we see synthetic turf, but that's no longer the case in some Kentucky and Indiana parks. John Schroeder with Schroeder Landscaping in Evansville is submitting his designs for the park on Fourth and Main Streets, and plans to replace grass with turf. Jill Scholl works Downtown and is onboard, she says the idea of fake grass isn't a bad one. This project costs the city and taxpayers nothing, since the park is privately owned. The design team looked to thriving Smothers Park and its success with turf. Plans to add a new fountain are in the works. Many say once complete, its a win for Downtown and your wallets. Schroeder Landscaping is already breaking ground and weather permitting it says it hopes to have the turf down in 4 to 6 weeks.

The AstroTurf looks terrible. How could anyone have approved that abomination. Why can't Evansville catch up to the rest of the world??? Embarrassing.

Then it's not a park.
