Starting next year, Vanderburgh County will have a new treasurer. Susan Kirk unseated Democrat incumbent Rick Davis in one of the closer local races last night. Kirk took 51-percent of the vote. She tells Eyewitness News she's looking forward to her new role.
"You know its fun to win and it's great and everything, said Kirk, " but I guess I feel a little sentimenal for the people who didn't win. Been there done that. I know what it's like not to win. So, it's kind of bitter sweet sometimes type of thing, but like I said I'm very greatful and very thankful."
"The difference between running for mayor and losing," said Davis, "was I still had a job on January 1. I was still the Vanderburgh County Treasurer. But this time I'm out. I'm out of office. So, that's a little harder to take than it was running for mayor."
Davis will finish out the rest of the year as Treasurer. He has held that position for the last four years.
