Windows Exec, Sinofsky Out at Microsoft

On the heels of the big Apple Ouster a few weeks back, comes another executive shakeup, this time at Microsoft.

Steven Sinofsky, head of the Windows Division, has left the company, just two weeks after the launch of Windows 8, the updated version of Microsoft's flagship product.

Sinofsky's been at Microsoft since 1989, and was considered the heir apparent to CEO, Steve Ballmer, who in a statement, provided few details about the departure, referring to it only as a "leadership change."

"I am grateful for the many years of work that Steven has contributed to the company. The products and services we have delivered to the market in the past few months mark the launch of a new era at Microsoft," Ballmer said.

Sinofsky had a reputation as a taskmaster and was reportedly not well liked by other executives.  Taking his place is Julie Larson-Green, who has been Corporate Vice President, Program Management, Windows Client.
